Weaver's Study Group / Doubleweave for 2015 / 2016

Weaver's Study Group

Our Weaver's Study Group is headed up by Helena Valentine.

For 2015 / 2016, we will be studying doubleweave and creating our own doubleweave fabric.

Doubleweave is the construction of a 2-sided cloth in which two layers of cloth are woven simultaneously. They can be woven separately or woven with a seam on both sides or woven with a seam on one side (when removed from the loom, you will have one layer of cloth double the width) or you can finger manipulate the warps as you weave so the layers change positions, i.e., the bottom layer can be brought up to the top and the top layer to the bottom.

We have all been tasked to complete an initial doubleweave project on our looms and have it ready to show at the next Weaver's Study Group meeting - to take place in January.

Here are several sources for additional information on doubleweave:

- Double Weave by Peggy Weigle (a good reference book in our library)

- Jennnifer Moore has a DVD on doubleweave basics. You can preview her DVD here . This preview will give you a good idea of the basics.
